With a powerful turn of foot, Juddmonte Farms’ FIELD OF GOLD took off from his rivals and won the Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas on Saturday at the Curragh.

The grey colt, trained by John and Thady Gosden, had a new rider, Colin Keane, on board, after he moved too late in the English 2000 Guineas last month and finished second. Tracking outside of the front runners early in the one mile turf race, Field of Gold was given his cue by Keane with just over a furlong to go and the son of Kingman – Princesse de Lune surged past the leaders. He won by 3 3/4 lengths in 1:36.58 on good turf.

It was the fourth win in seven starts for the Juddmonte-bred whose third dam, Serena’s Sister, is a full sister to champion Serena’s Song.

“It was as good a feel as I’ve had off a horse in a long time,” Keane told RTE Sport.

“He’s just so straightforward and powerful.

“I just stepped in for today, but he seems to be a horse going the right way.”

The St. James’s Palace Stakes (G1) at Royal Ascot could be next for Field of Gold.
