One lucky bettor hit it big at Hastings Racecourse on Friday, August 8, 2025, taking home the entire US $150,132 Jackpot Pick 5 prize. The wager was placed through Twinspires, and with a minimum bet of just $1, the single winning ticket swept the entire pool.
“What a great payout,” said Dawn Lupul, Manager of Racing and Communications at BC Racebook. “These jackpot pools can grow to be huge, and we want to congratulate the winner. We look forward to seeing the pool grow again as we build toward the BC Derby.”
Friday night’s racing action wasn’t the only highlight. Onsite, the Whiskey Smoke event treated guests to an evening celebrating premium whiskey, fine wines, and quality cigars.
“It was a packed house on Friday with a stylish crowd of well-dressed locals,” Lupul added. “It was great to see and hear the energy they brought to the night.”
Hastings handled just under $400,000 in wagering across the five-race program.
The BC Derby, the final leg of the Western Canadian Derby Series, will be Saturday, September 13, 2025 with the card starting at 2:30 pm PDT / 5:30 pm EDT. The series provides a $100,000 Derby Bonus should a horse win all three events in the series. The first leg was the Manitoba Derby held at Assiniboia Downs on August 4 and the second leg will be contested at Century Mile with the Canadian Derby on Saturday, August 23.
