The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is continuing to supervise the containment of the neuropathogenic form of EHV-1 with additional retesting this week. Results to date indicate the positive cases are limited to a single barn plus a single additional horse from Barn 10 at Woodbine Racetrack.

Barn 10 horses were re-tested May 26, 2020 and all samples were negative. The horses will undergo another round of tests on June 1, 2020.

Barn 12 horses were re-tested on May 25, 2020 and two more horses tested positive, bringing the total to 29. The two horses have been removed and isolated. All other horses tested negative and these will be re-tested on Thursday May 28, 2020. If the results are negative and there are no clinical signs, these horses will be permitted to train on Friday May 29 as a segregated group.

Barn 22, 19, and the two horses isolated in Barn 11 will be retested on May 27, 2020.

All other restrictions remain in place (please click HERE for EHV-1 Industry Notices; refer to May 21 Notice).

The mitigation strategies that have been put in place appear to be working and the re-testing efforts will confirm this status.

The AGCO is continuing to monitor the situation closely and new significant developments will be reported in upcoming Notices.

EHV-1 cannot be spread to humans and is unrelated to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
