The Canadian yearling sales will go on and prospective Thoroughbred owners are going to want to get in on scooping up potential stars for the coming years.

In Ontario, there are 219 yearlings catalogued (11 early scratches) for the 2020 Canadian Premier Yearling Sale hosted by the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society September 2 beginning at 12 noon and plans remain to have people allowed in the sale pavilion to shop for their next racing prospect.

Last year the sale continued to show signs of moving forward with the average price increasing to over $21,000 for 157 yearlings sold (88 were unsold).

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic won’t be known until after the sale but local horsepeople have plenty of selection to add some 2021 2-year-olds to their stable to compete for rich purses.

Ontario sires are well represented and this year’s first crop sire RELOAD (Hard Spun), off to a good start in this shortened season, has 20 yearlings in the book.  Reload is currently 3rd in North American on the leading 1st crop sire list behind Speightster and Not This Time.

SOCIETY’S CHAIRMAN has 19 yearlings catalogued, followed by 18 for Old Forester.

The first crop of Canadian stakes winner Passion for Action, Grade 2 winner of $628,519 and son of top sire Speightstown, will be on display at the sale.

The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 7th and 8th leading 1st crop sires in North America all have yearlings in the sale. They are offspring of Not This Time, Reload, Air Force Blue, Exaggerator and Vancouver.
