Friday Dec. 13 afternoon in St. Lucia marks an historic day on the island with the opening of the Royal Saint Lucia Turf Club and a four-race Thoroughbred program including the $150,000 Pitons Cup.

The new track is the first-stage  of the Pearl of the Caribbean, an integrated international development project led by DSH Caribbean Star Ltd, part of the business empire built by Teo Ah Khing, founder of the China Horse Club.

The four races are made up of horses from the U.S. The horses race Lasix-free. The first race has all unstarted 3-year-olds including offspring of Tizway, Paynter and others. The 2nd and 3rd races are a mix of unstarted horses and claiming types.

The Pitons Cup field is made up of horses that were raced or claimed by trainers Karl Broberg and Robertino Diodoro and all raced for low claiming, have not raced since late in 2018 and were prepared by Rise Horse Stable in Ocala.
