Jockey Constant Montpellier has been fined $5,000 and suspended for a period of 150 calendar days from November 20th through December 10, 2006 and March 31 through August 6, 2007 for “a premeditated and deliberate attempt to endanger the safety and welfare of other riders by use of his mount following the running of the fourth race on November 11, 2006,” according to the Ontario Racing Commission.
Jockey Patrick Husbands has been fined $5,000 and suspended for 60 calendar days November 20 through December 10, 2006 and March 31 through May 8, 2007 for “employing the use of a weapon in a violent manner while assaulting another licensee in the Jockey’s Quarters prior to the running for the fourth race on November 11, 2006,” according for the Ontario Racing Commission.
The two jockey’s were reported to have been in an argument prior to the running of the fourth race on November 11th at Woodbine Racetrack. Husbands allegedly hit Montpellier with his helmet prior to the fourth race. Following the fourth race and while still mounted, Montpellier was accused of running his mount at Husbands, endangering other horses and jockeys.
Both jockeys have been granted a stay on the rulings until their appeals have been heard.
