Hackensack, NJ – Marcavelly (2004, ddark bay, Johannesburg – Dark Jewel by Majestic Light), a multiple graded stakes winner, will stand at stud for the 2009 season at Colebrook Farms Stallion Station in Ontario, Canada. Ahmed Zayat purchased Marcavelly for $340,000 at the 2006 Fasig Tipton Calder sale of select two year olds in training.

Marcavelly went on to win the Continental Mile Stakes in 2006, followed by the Hill Prince Stakes (G3) and Central Bank Transylvania Stakes (G3) in 2007. “I am very excited to stand Marcavelly in Canada. We are firm believers in the Canadian program and where it is heading,” commented Ahmed Zayat. “I could have not found a better place for him to start his career at stud than Colebrook Farms Stallions Station. Marcavelly was a phenomenal racehorse at 2 and 3. He is the total package with looks, talent, pedigree and class. I look forward to seeing his babies hit the ground, as we will be aggressively supporting him in the sales ring and on the race track, especially with the lucrative Ontario Sired program in place.”

“I am very excited to offer the Canadian market a horse with such quality. He offers a lot to the Canadian breeder with turf and polytrack form, class and pedigree. He was amongst his generation’s best milers, dominantly winning stakes in Belmont, Monmouth and Keeneland and setting a new stakes record in the Hill Prince G3 going 1m in 1:33” remarked John Burness, owner of Colebrook Farms Stallion Station. “Having a horse like this standing in Ontario will offer breeders that come to foal in Canada a new, top‐class stallion to breed back to. This presents a great opportunity to take advantage of the Canadian bred program as well as the Ontario Sire program.”

Marcavelly is from the first crop of his champion sire Johannesburg, earning $332,963 in 8 starts. Off the board in only one start, Marcavelly has won 4 of his 8 starts and placed 2nd in 3 – all in stakes company. In 2007, Johannesburg sired 180 starters, 62 winners, 6 SWs, with total earnings of $3,992,869, including SCAT DADDY [G1], TEUFLESBERG [G2], BARONESS THATCHER [G3], MARCAVELLY [G3], LA TRAVIATA [G3], SAGEBURG (Ire).

“Marcavelly was a great miler. He is gorgeous looking, and has a lot of class to him. Watching him run and seeing his explosive turn of foot was exhilarating.” said Bill Mott, who trained him. Marcavelly out of a full sister to multiple G1 winner Hidden Light, who is the dam of BC Champion Artie Schiller. Bred in Kentucky by Harrison Stables, Inc., Marcavelly’s stud fee for 2009 will be CAN$5,000 Live Foal.
