A field of 10 will race in the first PITONS CUP on Friday at the new Royal Saint Lucia Turf Club in St. Lucia. It is the richest race in the Caribbean and the horses were sent to the island from Florida.
Brandon Rice of Rice Horse Stables in Ocala was instrumental in sending horses for the Pitons Cup and other races. The horses were offered for $20,000 (US) which included a chance to race in the Pitons Cup. Quite a few North American farms and trainers are represented.
The 10-horses in the Pitons Cup were all recently claimed or trained by Karl Broberg or Robertino Diodoro and raced at the low claiming level through November 2018. None have raced since and no published workouts are available as the horses were in training at Rice Horse Farm.
There are geldings and fillies and one entire horse in the field. Most starters have only won 1 or 2 races but the two most likely winners on year-old form would be Oriental Crown and K Kash.
