Vancouver, B.C. – Sir Gallovic played the role of giant killer with a dramatic at-the-wire victory over True Metropolitan in the $100,000 BC Premiers at Hastings Racecourse Sunday afternoon.

Winning by a neck, Sir Gallovic took advantage of a 13-pound weight difference and timed his move perfectly under jockey Mario Gutierrez in a winning time of 2:15.4 in the 1 3/8-miles feature.

True Metropolitan, 2006 Sovereign Award winner as the top handicap horse in Canada, was assigned 129 pounds.

The winner of last year’s Premiers, True Metropolitan broke sharply with Quincy Welch in the irons but Sir Gallovic stalked the pace and rallied from three wide on the backstretch, gaining the lead on the final turn.

“Take nothing away from True Metropolitan,” said Sir Gallovic owner Glen Todd speaking on behalf of his partner Patrick Kinsella. “Mario did the right thing by taking a big run at the right time. We’re proud of everybody on our team.”
