What a wonderful photo taken by James Carey Lauder of a cheeky Stanley Chadee Jr. aboard stakes winner MISS IMPERIAL as they won the Ericka’s Lass Overnight Stakes August 12 at 1 1/16 miles at Assiniboia Downs. This was the seventh win for Miss Imperial in 2020 who began her season in the US where she was claimed for $25,000 by trainer Murray Duncan for himself and the estate of Garylle Stewart.

The 4-year-old by MacLeans Music has won over $111,000 US this year and since arriving at Assiniboia Downs she has won the Go Go Lolo Overnight Stakes, the LaVerendrye Stakes, the Canada Stakes and the Ericka’s Lass Overnight Stakes.

Trainer Duncan also felt some relief this week when HIDDEN GRACE, the 2019 champion 3-year-old filly in Manitoba, got back on the winning track, taking an allowance race on Aug. 10. Owned by Cam Ziprick, Barry Arnason and Charles Fouillard, Hidden Grace (Going Commando) overcame a stumbling start to win by 6 lengths.

On August 11, Assiniboia offered another mandatory payout of the Jackpot Pick 5 and fans poured money into the wager.

Some $2 million was up for grabs in the pool (winning payoff was just over $1,000) and wagering on the night was $2.8 million.

Darren Dunn CEO of Assiniboia told the ChrisD.ca website, “We are so thankful to the horseplayers, horsemen and partners that truly made this a success. This has been an extraordinary year for the Downs so far. We’re looking forward to the possibility of going out with another big mandatory event to close out the meet in September.”
