A full sister to multiple champion PINK LLOYD, recently retired from his illustrious career, has been named to honour her famous brother.

Some of the newly turned 2-year-olds who went through Canadian yearling sales in 2021 have already been named, including a $145,000 daughter of Old Forester – Gladiator Queen by Great Gladiator. Owner Bruno Schickedanz has christened his expensive filly JUST PINKY.

Bred by John Carey, Just Pinky was the third most expensive yearling sold in Canada last year and certainly one of the most expensive horses purchased by Schickedanz, who led all owners at Woodbine in 2021 by wins.

Topping all yearlings by price last year was a $180,000 filly by young American sire Practical Joke – Silent Treat by Silent Name (Jpn), purchased by a syndicate from Shannondoe Farm, agent VIII. The filly has been cleverly named TRICK AND TREAT.

William and Anne Scott paid $160,000 for a colt by Silent Name (Jpn), through trainer Stuart Simon, and have named him CRIMSON COMET. The bay colt is from the stakes-producing mare Sweet Bama Breeze.

Alberta’s top-priced yearling, a $32,000 gelding by Value Plus from Holiday Maker by Harlan’s Holiday, has been named FRONT END FREDDIE. The youngster was bought by Don Knight and Don Danard.

In British Columbia, a pair of fillies bought by Glen Todd’s North American Thoroughbred Horse Company have been named ADDENDUM and APPROACHABLE. The former was a $42,000 purchase and is by Mucho Macho Man and the latter was a $39,000 filly and is by Liam’s Map.

Names of sales yearlings are updated on the sales search links on The Blood-Horse.
