As the temperature drops and snowflakes are in the air, the MARTIN DREXLER barn has been heating up as his team sent out six winners last week including three on Sunday, November 13. Drexler’s 69 wins in North America this year is the most he has ever had in a single year and he also has set a personal record for purse earnings at $2.3 million.
At Woodbine in 2022 he has 56 wins, matching his 2021 number of wins. His personal best for the Woodbine meeting is 63 from 2019.
Following a graded stakes win with Franco Meli’s Il Malocchio on Nov. 12, Drexler sent out numerous starters on Sunday. His three winners were LAST AMERICAN EXIT ($25,000) for Windylea Farm LLC, the gorgeous grey DILETTANTE ($15,000) for Deborah Fisher and HAVE A SOUPER DAY ($32,00), also for Windylea. In the latter race, the 10th of the day, Drexler horses finished 1, 2 and 4.
Trainer DARWIN BANACH has also been on a roll and he won two more races on Sunday. Longtime maiden CHAIRMAN FOX finally got his maiden win in race 1 and JWS Farms’ ENGLISH CONQUEROR snuck up the rail late in a 1 1/ mile allowance race to win in a dead heat with Stronach Stables’ Elusive Knight, trained by Mike Doyle.
Banach has won four from his last six starts.
Meanwhile, the powerful KEVIN ATTARD stable continues to roll and it sent out a nice 2-year-old debut winner on Sunday named MOON LANDING.
A bay colt by Nyquist – Fragrance by Malibu Moon, Moon Landing flew past rivals to win by 4 1/2 engths in a sharp 1:16.38 for 6 1/2 furlongs. He earned a 71 Beyer Speed Figure. Rafael Hernandez rode the colt for owners Madaket Stable, Robert La Penta and eFive Racing Thoroughbreds. David Anderson’s Anderson Farms and Rod Ferguson bred the colt and sold him for $200,000 at the 2021 Keeneland September sale.
This is the first foal of Fragrance, a winning daughter of the mare Nadeshiko, a stakes-winning half-sister to Grade 2 winners Imperative and Battle Won.
