The venerable Shamrock Farm, Maryland, is now standing Coltimus Prime. The 12-year-old son and only heir of Milwaukee Brew joins the roster at Shamrock along with veteran sire Outflanker, Barbados, and Rainbow Heir.
Coltimus Prime finished his on-track career with eight wins in 38 starts for earnings of $644,125. As a 2-year-old he broke his maiden at second asking with an eight length maiden special weight victory at Woodbine going seven furlongs, and he capped off his freshman year with a second-place finish in the Display Stakes. He earned his first stakes victory in the 2014 Prince of Wales Stakes, the middle jewel of the Canadian Triple Crown, winning in the fastest time posted this century. His three-year-old year also included a GIII stakes-placed finish in the Ontario Derby.
In 2017, former jockey Rene Douglas arranged to bring the horse to Panama, where he earned the country’s champion older horse and champion stayer titles that year. His first season in Panama was highlighted by a victory in the Group 1 Clasico Presidente de la Republica, and he then returned to the U.S. to finish his campaign with a victory in the mile and one-quarter Invitational Cup Stakes on the Clasico Internacional del Caribe card at Gulfstream Park.
Bred in Ontario, Coltimus Prime is out of the prolific Distorted Humor mare Certainly Special, who hails from the great foundation mare, Ballade, who’s progeny include the graded stakes-winning, champion sire-producing family, that includes Saint Ballado, Devil’s Bag, and Glorious Song who produced Rahy and Singspiel.
Coltimus Prime, who entered stud in 2020 at Beau Valley Farm in Didsbury, Alberta and stood at Solera Farm in Florida for 2022, will stand for $1,500. “Special arrangements will be offered to qualifying mares,” said Jim Steele, Farm Manager at Shamrock Farm.
