Foaling season is underway, and it’s time to enrol your mare in the 2023 Thoroughbred Improvement Program (TIP) Ontario Resident Mare Program (ORMP).
To make it easy for breeders to enrol their mares in the ORMP, Ontario Racing has partnered with The Jockey Club to have Ontario Resident Mare Declaration Forms sent as part of The Jockey Club Registration Application for those foals reported as being born in Ontario.
Breeders can also enrol their mares online using the TIP website. Click here to enrol your mare online.
Also new for 2023, breeders must enrol each mare that foals in 2023 within one-year of their foaling date or be subject to a $50 late fee. Mares foaling in 2022 and prior are not subject to the one-year from foaling deadline or late fee when enrolling in the ORMP.
Enrolling a mare in the ORMP provides benefits to owners through the Registered Ontario Bred Restricted Racing Program and the Registered Ontario Bred Purse Bonus Program, and to the breeder(s) of Registered Ontario Breds through Breeders Awards.
For a horse to be declared a registered Ontario-Bred
- The horse’s dam must have been declared as an Ontario Resident Mare for the birth year of the foal and meet all eligibility requirements with Ontario Racing.
- The foal must be registered with The Jockey Club.
