A half-sister to Sovereign Award champion and millionaire Escape Clause topped the 2024 CTHS Manitoba yearling sale on August 22 at the Red River Exhibition Grounds at Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg.
Bring the Bourbon, consigned by Ziprick Thoroughbreds, brought a bid of $33,000 from Ziprick and partners. The filly is by young stallion Speculating, a son of Medaglia d’Oro and from Danger Pay, by Circulating.
Escape Clause’s first foal, Shonan Gachi (Jpn) (Duramente (Jpn)), a three-year-old, won his maiden on Aug. 18 at 2600 metres at Sapporo Racecourse.
Larry Falloon sold the highest-priced colt, a grey son of US sire Mitole, who brought $32,000 from Anne Champion.
Only 11 (39%) of the 28 yearlings that went through the sales ring on Thursday sold, compared to 42% being sold in 2023, and total receipts were down slightly from $183,500 in 2023 to $174,000 in 2024. The average sale price was up for the fifth year in a row.
