Wil-a-Way Farms, Gail Jewsbury and Pat Jarvis’ CHI CHI TIME ($6.80) made a stunning career debut on May 31 at Hastings Racecourse in Vancouver. Despite a very sloppy track, the BC-bred daughter of Finality – Amarachi by Northern Afleet broke sharply under jockey Kuri Powell, quickly opened up a length, then five on her way to a 12-length romp over four rivals. Her splits were 21.94 and 45.56 before stopping the clock for 6 1/2 furlongs in an amazing 1:15.13.
She earned an 80 Beyer Speed Figure, according to Daily Racing Form.
Trained by Pat Jarvis, Chi Chi Time was bought back by breeders Karen and Gladys Dittloff for $9,900 from the 2023 BC CTHS Mixed Sale. She is from a mare who won two of eight races and the dam is a half-sister to stakes winners Kneesnhips and Zip Cash Back.
Amarachi has three other foals to race and two are winners.
Hastings had just six races on Saturday and six on Sunday.
Scott Henson has the unenviable task of planning races for Hastings; for more, check out this from The Province.
