A total of 4,692 horses have been catalogued to the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, which will run 12 sessions from Monday, Sept 8 through Saturday, Sept. 20. As a global marketplace for Thoroughbred racing prospects, the September Sale last year sold 2,894 horses for a record $428 million to rank as the highest-grossing Thoroughbred auction in history.
Canadian-breds in the sale number over 70, including a lone British Columbia-bred (hip number 3387)
Susan Foreman has 11 consigned to the sale, beginning with a Practical Joke colt, hip 927.
Cara Bloodstock of Bernard McCormack sells for Apricot Valley Thoroughbreds, Saintsbury Farm and Jesse Korona and Nikkolas Lavorato, among others.
David Anderson’s Anderson Farms has nine set to sell including a Curlin filly, hip no. 153, out of graded stakes winner Summer in Saratoga, whose first foal is working well at Keeneland.
Ivan and Colleen Dalos sell a number of yearlings through Gainesway, agent, and Hill ‘n’ Dale at Xalapa, agent, most of them Kentucky-breds. One of them is a Tapit colt out of Gamble’s Ghost, a multiple stakes winners, who is hip no. 340.
Murray Smith and Shawn Minshall have two offerings from the family of champion My Boy Prince, whom Smith sold as the sales topper at the CTHS Ontario sale a few years ago.
Minshall and Smith have hip 1561, a filly by champion Classic Empire out of the stakes winning mare Hopping Not Hoping, the dam of My Boy Prince (Cairo Prince). The Ontario breeders also have the first foal of Right Matters, a Lemon Drop Kid mare who is a half sister to My Boy Prince; the colt is hip 2972.
Sean and Dorothy Fitzhenry off a Charlatan – Dixie Chicken colt (1071) who is a half brother to stakes winners Tom’s Magic, Dixie Moon and Guy Caballero and Josham Farms also have yearlings in the sale.
