Haunted Dream appears to be headed back to Woodbine for the October 4 Canadian International, after taking the Singspiel Stakes in North America earlier this month.

Wathnan Racing and trainer Hamad Al Jehani’s globetrotter, who is a winner in his trainer’s native Qatar and was fourth in the Neom Turf Cup in Saudi Arabia earlier in the year, relished his recent trip to Canada and produced a career best to scoop Grade 3 honours.

In the Singspiel, Haunted Dream and jockey Rafael Hernandez easily defeated Tosen Wish and Dancin in Da-nile. As the competition is not expected to be much stronger than what he met in the Singspiel – horses such as Niagara winner Stanley House by-passed the International to run in the Woodbine Mile – it would make sense that Haunted Dream would return.

“We were absolutely delighted with the win, he won really impressively and enjoyed his travels,” Wathnan’s racing adviser Richard Brown told attheraces.com.

“We’ve got him back here in Newmarket now, it’s quite a quick turnaround to the Canadian International, but that is certainly what we are thinking at the moment.

“Of course, the horse will have to give Hamad and his team the right signals that he’s well, but we’re certainly considering going back to Woodbine.”

Al Jehani is a Derby-winning trainer in his homeland, but is now right at home operating for Wathnan from his Newmarket base in the heartland of British racing.

However, the Qatari handler is proving a hit across the globe with Haunted Dream’s Singspiel Stakes success, not only his third Group-level triumph in as many weeks, but a sixth stakes victory of 2025 in four different countries.
