In his fourth year as a racehorse owner, after first getting his feet wet in the Hastings Racing Club, Jordan Froelich was in the winner’s circle for both the $75,000 Jack Diamond and $75,000 Sadie Diamond Stakes, two of British Columbia’s top races for juveniles held September 20 at Hastings Racecourse.
Froelich, who has not only jumped into ownership with verve, but also into horseman’s groups, celebrated first with KARENSNOTIMPRESSED, a filly by Sungold, who broke her maiden in the Sadie Diamond Futurity at 6 1/2 furlongs on dirt. The dark bay two-year-old, trained by Dino Condilenios and bred by Terry Clyde and Mike Anderson, won by 1 3/4 lengths in her third career start. She was second in the CTHS Sales Stakes and third in the BC Cup Nursery Stakes to begin her career.
Karensnotimpressed won the Sadie Diamond in a time of 1:18.36 for a 54 Beyer Speed Figure.
Froelich purchased Karensnotimpressed (named for his mother’s opinion of her son getting into racing) for just $5,500 at the CTHS BC sale last August.
The filly is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Anstrum, who won or placed in 17 stakes races and earned over $200,000.
Later on the Sept. 20 card, Froelich and Condilenios were right back in the winner’s circle when DEBRUSK, by Finality, won the Jack Diamond by 2 1/4 lengths in 1:17.64, for a 63 Beyer Figure. Froelich shares ownership of the flashy chestnut gelding with Condilenois and Terry and George Georgeopoulos and they bought the youngster from last year’s sale for $8,500.
Named for NHL player Jake DeBrusk, the equine Debrusk was winning his second straight stakes race in his third career race. Debrusk, from the winning mare Real Vain, has seven winning siblings. His second dam, Vainglorious, is the dam of BC champion Almost Time, who won the 2008 Jack Diamond Futurity.
The day after Froelich won the two stakes races, he wrote on ‘X’:
Still pinching myself this morning that I won both the Sadie and Jack Diamond Futurities. I’m so blessed and grateful for all you do for our horses @dinocondo. To think I found you on Twitter back then and known you had trained for my dad’s old business partner, Peter Redekop.
