The 2025 live racing season at Assiniboia Downs is coming to a thrilling close, and the wagering excitement has reached a fever pitch! The ASD Jackpot Pick 5 pool has ballooned to over $240,000 as horseplayers have only four racing days left to take down the massive prize.
The racing meet officially wraps up on Wednesday, October 8. If the ASD Jackpot Pick 5 is not hit by a single winning ticket before that final night, a mandatory payout of the entire pool will occur on October 8, guaranteeing the massive prize money is distributed to all winning tickets.
Assiniboia Downs CEO, Darren Dunn, commented on the intensity of the final weeks: “This is always an interesting time in the meet. We have a jackpot that’s growing fast, now nearing a quarter of a million dollars, and there are only a few days left before it can be won as a single winner. We’ve had some nail-biters recently where a string of longshots came in, making that single winner possibility very real. It’s exciting to watch all the way to the last day of the season, which is coming up quickly!”
Beyond the jackpot, the popular $50,000 Guaranteed Pick 4 pool has been a consistent performer, regularly exceeding expectations. In addition, this year, The Downs delivered on a plan to reduce the takeouts on all pools to be below 20%. The overall average takeout on The Downs is now only 18.44%, one of the lowest in North America.
Assiniboia Downs will also formally recognize Truth and Reconciliation Day on Tuesday, September 30, with all staff wearing orange shirts in a show of respect and remembrance.
Dunn highlighted the importance of this recognition: “The participation of First Nations in our racing program is so incredibly important to Assiniboia Downs. We are so proud of the many success stories that have been created here and their contributions to the sport, which includes 10 consecutive leading trainer titles won by an indigenous person and in 2025 now tracking strongly for 11 with the near insurmountable lead that trainer Steve Keplin Jr. has.”
Live racing will continue Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. (central) through the final day of the season on October 8. Both Wednesdays feature the popular Girls Night Out event, offering cash draws and food & beverage specials for all the ladies in attendance. And, as always, admission and parking are free!
Fans can enjoy simulcast wagering on tracks from all over the world, fun cash draws in the 140 VLT gaming floor as well as fan-favourite food and drink specials all year round.
