Two Canadian-bred fillies by notable US sire Uncle Mo sold for $400,000 and $340,000 respectively at the recently competed FASIG-TIPTON KENTUCKY OCTOBER SALE.
The popular sale established records across the board. Overall, 1,095 yearlings sold for $71,843,500, a 21.9% increase over the record set in 2024 when 1,125 yearlings sold for $58,940,000. The average rose 25% to $65,491 from last year’s then-record average of $52,392. The median of $30,000 was also a new sale record, a 50% increase over the $20,000 median in 2024. The RNA rate was 18.0%.
The sale topper was a $900,000 colt by Curlin (hip 268) out of Canadian champion Munnyfor Ro, sold during the first session on Monday.
“If you chart the growth of this sale over the last 10-15 years, it’s certainly solidified its place on the calendar as an important sale for both buyers and sellers,” said Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning Jr. “It’s very rewarding and very encouraging for breeders to be able to come to this sale and have outstanding results.”
More than a dozen Ontario-breds, plus one BC-Bred and Alberta-bred, were sold at the big auction and there were some Canadians on the buyer’s list as well.
David Anderson’s Anderson Farms sold a filly by Uncle Mo from Pearl Turn by Bernardini for $400,000 to Fergus Galvin, agent. The filly is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner GRETZKY THE GREAT, who won the Summer Stakes (G1) at Woodbine and a full-sister to stakes winner BAH DEE YA.
Woods Edge Farm, agent II, sold an Ontario-bred Uncle Mo filly from Chocolateaddiction by Pioneerof the Nile for $340,000. The filly was bought by Baccari Bloodstock and bred by Mark Dodson.
Cara Bloodstock, agent for Saintsbury Farm, sold a colt from the final crop of the late Speightstown for $135,000. The colt, out of Fiscal Largesse by Kitten’s Joy, was bought by Richmond Racing.
Among the Canadian buyers was ROBERT MARZILLI, who bought an Ontario-bred Speaker’s Corner filly for $55,000 from Anderson Farms, agent, and an Authentic colt foaled in Ontario for $70,000 from Hill ‘n’ Dale at Xalapa, agent.
CANUCK RACING bought a Hard Spun yearling filly for $24,000 from Hill ‘n’ Dale, also an Ontario-bred, and MICHAEL LAY paid $60,000 for an Anderson Farms-bred filly by Midshipman. Manfred and Penny Conrad bought a BC-bred filly by Vekoma for $100,000, a youngster bred by Bryan and Carol Anderson. The Conrads also bought an Omaha Beach colt bred in Kentucky for $120,000.
Henley Thoroughbreds bought an Ontario-bred colt by Speaker’s Corner from Anderson Farms for $35,000 and Manitoba’s BARRY ARNASON bought a Greatest Honour colt for $15,000 and an Ontario-bred Charlatan colt from Hill ‘n’ Dale at Xalapa for $37,000
Woodbine trainer Nathan Squires bought three American-bred yearlings for $90,000 (Epicenter filly), $75,000 (Candy Ride (Arg) colt) and $25,000 (Authentic filly).
