Following the demise of horse racing at Hastings Racecourse, the Vancouver Whitecaps FC have unveiled plans to pursue a new purpose-built soccer stadium on the site in partnership with the City of Vancouver.
Following more than a decade playing at BC Place, ongoing challenges related to scheduling, costs, and long-term certainty raised fears that the franchise might be forced to consider relocating to another city. But riding the momentum of their first-ever MLS Cup Final appearance, the Whitecaps are now eyeing a potential new venue at Hastings that would encompass a world-class stadium and entertainment district. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the club and the city has been signed, with the city retaining ownership of the property and both parties recognizing the Tsleil-Waututh Nation’s agreement to purchase the casino business currently operating on the site. Negotiations will continue through 2026.
Great Canadian Entertainment announced it would discontinue live horse racing operations at Hastings Park following the Province of British Columbia’s decision to terminate the slot-machine revenue stream dedicated to racing effective January 31, 2026.
