Tom’s Magic, one of Canada’s top three-year-olds of 2025 and winner of the Breeders’ Stakes, makes his four-year-old debut on January 31 at Tampa Bay Downs in the Grade 3 Tampa Bay Stakes worth $175,000. The Saturday card at Tampa Bay is called Turf Champions day and the Tampa Bay Stakes is set for 3:24 p.m.

A son of Justify – Dixie Chicken by Rahy, Tom’s Magic has a super record of 8-4-3-0 in his career. He was a belated second in the King’s Plate at Woodbine last year after a messy trip, but came back to win the Breeders’ and then he missed by a neck in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby at Del Mar. Just behind Tom’s Magic in the Hollywood Derby was Test Score, who came back to win the Pegasus World Cup Turf (G1) over older horses last weekend at Gulfstream.

Tom’s Magic is trained by Michael Stidham and owned by C J Thoroughbreds and Mo Speed Racing and he was bred by Sean Fitzhenry.

Rafael Hernandez, who rode the chestnut colt to Breeders’ Stakes glory, is reunited with the colt and they start from post 7 at 3-to-1 in the morning line odds.

The lone graded stakes winner in the Tampa Bay Stakes is WIN FOR THE MONEY, who upset the Woodbine Mile (G1) in 2024 but he is 0-for-7 since then. A seven-year-old by Mohaymen owned by Live Oak Plantation and trained by Mark Casse, Win for the Money was a close second in his return from a short layoff on Dec. 27 in a Gulfstream Park allowance race. Win for the Money worked 5 furlongs on the Palm Meadows grass in a sizzling 57 3/5 on January 16.
