The 2024 Sovereign Award winning jockey SAHIN CIVACI is returning to Woodbine where he won his first title. Civaci, who steadily rose to the top of the charts in Canada and won 170 races in 2024, left Woodbine to ride in New York last October.

Civaci won 11 races from October to December and he has won 21 races this year. Two of his wins this year came at Woodbine when he dropped in to ride Reagan’s Honor to win the Whimsical Stakes and Regal Guest to win an allowance race.

Business has not been brisk on the tough NYRA circuit, however, and his last win was May 16. He has ridden winners for Linda Rice, Bill Mott and other top trainers.

Civaci’s wife Alyssa recently gave birth to the couple’s second child, a second boy.

Civaci is named on horses at Woodbine next Saturday when there are a number of stakes races.

*Saturday, June 20 at Woodbine did not have a stakes race but some neat races including plenty of maiden races. The topper of the day had to be PIPER’S FACTOR’S course-record setting win in an allowance/optional race at 7 1/2 furlongs on the inner turf.  It was a fairly easy win for jockey Sofia Vives (and her third of the day) as she let Piper’s Factor, trained by Katerina Vassilieva for Chiefswood Stablke, roll on the lead. He just kept on going and ran the distance in 1:27.77, bettering the previous record of 1:28.11.

Piper’s Factor, by the Factor, is 2 for this year and he has 5 wins from 22 starts, is graded stakes placed and has earned over $365,000.

*The young Ontario stallion COLLUSION ILLUSION (Twirling Candy) had his first starters and winner on Saturday as SARAYU won her debut for owner and breeder Dan Agnew, who raced the stallion. Collusion Ilusion won the Grade 1 Big Crosby Stakes in California and he entered stud at Ballycroy Bloodstock once he was retired. Sarayu, trained by James Begg, ran the 4 1/2 furlongs in 52.99 and won by three lengths as the popular pick.
