Pre-entries for the BREEDERS’ CUP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS are due today, October 19 and will be made public on Oct. 21.

There are a few Woodbine-based horses headed to Keeneland, or, hoping to head there, for the two-day event showcasing the best horses in the world.

The aptly named CANADA, who won the Cup & Saucer Stakes, is headed to the bluegrass State in the hopes of getting into the Juvenile Turf, worth $1 million.

Owned by DJ Stable and trained by Mark Casse, Canada is a son of the great stallion Medaglia d’Oro, who recently passed away at the age of 27.  A May-born foal, Canada was second in his career debut in a Tapeta sprint and won the Cup & Saucer at 1 1/16 miles on turf on Oct. 4 with a 77 Beyer Speed Figure. He is from the stakes winning mare Season Ticket and was bred by Godolphin and John Ropes.  The race is expected to get an overflow number of entries and that could leave the colt on the also eligible list.

DJ Stable and Casse will be well represented in other races including the Distaff with champion NITROGEN and Natalma Stakesd (G1) winner VOYAGER.

The Natalma Stakes runner-up, DE LA RENTA, who won the Soaring Free Stakes ver the boys, is also on a hopeful trip to Kentucky for the Juvenile Fillies Turf against Voyager. The Kentucky bred by Oscar Performance is trained by Kevin Attard for X-Men Racing VI LLC and Madaket Stable.

For the Juvenile Turf Sprint, JDLP Holdings, Inc.’s MRS D is reportedly entered. The Kentucky bred by Bolt d’Oro won the Algonquin (G3) Stakes at 5 furlongs over heavily favoured GO FOR LAUNCH, also on the short list for entrants to the Juvenile Turf Sprint. Mrs D was second in the My Dear Stakes and third to Meloni in the Catch a Glimpse Stakes before her Algonquin win. Steven Chircop trains.

Stay tuned to this space for the pre-entries and news on Wednesday.
