STALLION AT ATTENTION – Top Canadian sire MILWAUKEE BREW shows off for the owners and breeders in Ontario at the Adena Springs 2nd annual Stallion Show – Janis Maine photo

COOL DUDESCelebrating Canadian at Adena

Breeders, owners and SOME trainers were at the 2nd ANNUAL ADENA SPRINGS STALLION SHOW yesterday at Frank Stronach’s gorgeous Adena Springs North in Aurora, Ontario.
A lovely set up greeted visitors who enjoyed barbeque steak and chicken salads and apple strudel, plus a live feed of racing and videos of the farm’s 9 stallions.

Mike Rogers, Dermot Carty, Liam O’Rourke and Mrs. Frieda Stronach were on hand to put together a cool day, parading the stallions for prospective  foal owners.
Jim Bannon was the MC and did a super job of introducing each horse. The stallions were not only immaculate but well behaved and fun to watch.

POWER OF PENDER
Top 3yo male romps in bog in Bunty

PENDER HARBOUR romped to an easy 4 1/2 length score in the restrcited BUNTY LAWLESS STAKES yesterday at Woodbine (94 Beyer Figure) and capped off a Sovereign award for top 3yo male. The son of Philanthropist is also a major contender for Canadian Horse of the Year.

The Bunty Lawless was run on the grass and while it was very surprising that the race stayed on with so much rain this week (races were cancelled Thursday because of too much rain), it was fun to see Pender Harbour come back from his messy Pennsylvania Derby run to beat up on the locals.
WELLOILEDMACHINE and HIPPOLYTUS, also 3yos, were 2nd and 3rd.

Co-owner Bob Giffin was thrilled with the performance of his versatile gelding, who has won races on Polytrack, dirt and turf this season.

“What an exciting day for an exciting horse,” said Giffin. “It was absolutely wonderful. This has been a very special year for us.”

DePaulo, who was disappointed with Pender Harbour’s previous outing, was happy to see the horse return to winning form.

“I think he had a little gas left in the tank,” smiled DePaulo. “The last race in Philadelphia was a disaster from the time he went in the gate. We took a shot, it just didn’t work out.  We’re happy to win this race today and beat older horses and give away weight. I think we proved our point.”

DePaulo noted that Pender Harbour will now embark on a well-earned rest, having won three races, to go along with a third-place effort in the Queen’s Plate, from seven starts in 2011.
