In an effort to maximize the opportunities for consistent, full field live race cards, Assiniboia Downs has made a modification to their 2009 live race calendar.
The addition of Tuesday night racing, with the first post time of 7 p.m, will now begin on Tuesday, June 23 instead of the original featured start of Tuesday, June 9.
The current live schedule of Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday evening with a first post time of 7 p.m. will see the addition of Tuesday evening races for four consecutive weeks: Tuesday, June 23, June 30, July 7 and July 14.
“After performing a recent survey of our horse population, we were able to determine that this revised schedule will provide a better fit for our inventory. The horsemen are in full agreement with this decision as well” said director of operations, Darren Dunn.
The new schedule will also require an extension of the length of the live race meet. Originally scheduled to end on Saturday, September 12, live racing will now be added to Wednesday, September 16, Friday, September 18, and Saturday, September 19.
The stakes race schedule which starts in earnest this week with the $30,000 Golden Boy Stakes – Wednesday, June 3, the $30,000 Chantilly Stakes – Friday, June 5 and the $30,000 Free Press Sprint – Saturday, June 6 will not change.
