A trio of Woodbine shippers lit up the board in Wednesday’s Grade II Lake George Stakes as Perfect Shirl held off Exclusive Love and No Explaining for the upset.
Despite winning her previous two starts for trainer Roger Attfield, Perfect Shirl was sent off at 9-1 and got the money when she reeled in Exclusive Love in the final strides under John Velazquez.
Exclusive Love almost stole it at 57-1 before settling for second.
The winner is by Perfect Soul – Lady Shirl and is a Kentucky bred for Charles Fipke and a half sister to stakes winner Lady Shakespeare. The runner-up is by Bernstein and is also a Kentucky bred for Mark Casse.
The all Canadian triple returned $6,103 with Perfect Shirl returning $20.60 to win.

WOODBINE WEDNESDAY NIGHT
Gold wins race
The Where’s the Ring colt RACE FOR GOLD came back and outnodded his stablemate friend ARPEATEE to win the $150,000 DEPUTY MINISTER stakes last night at Woodbine. The colt was 1 to 2 to win the weak event at 7 furlongs for Ontario sired guys.
He is owned by The Very Dry Stable and trainer by Robert Tiller. He ran an 83 Beyer Figure with the narrow win over Arpeatee, a son of Bold Executive – Gambolwithdestiny, by Rhythm.
The winner cost $72,149 as a yearling and is a half brother to 5 winners including the good runners Soul Rebel and recent winner Selembao.
Big night for Omar Moreno who had 3 winners including the opener witrh David James’ BOLD VIXEn (Mile DePaulo) who won at odds on for her 2nd win in 9 races. The race was a very weak Ontario sired allowance but the Bold Executive homebred romped.
Trainer ROBERT GORHAM won his first Woodbine race with WACCAMAW, who led all the way at low odds to win the allowance/optional claiming 2nd race for fillies and mares. She is a War Chant filly who was just 3rd in the Sweet Briar Too Stakes to Indian Apple Is.
Race 3, a maiden allowance for Ontario sired guys, came off the grass and big fave NOT SO GRIEM won anyway for Lynda Elliott-Griem and Robert Griem. He is a Cracker’s Folly guy who was winning for the 1st time in 10 races.
Another maiden allowance, race 4, was also off turf and the winner there was TRELAWNY, who had been 2nd in four previous races and won off by himself last night for Laurie Silvera, owner and trainer. He is a Florida bred by Three Wonders and was ridden by Moreno.
Race 5 went to JULIA CAREY trainee GOOLOGONG, who was coming off a May layoff and dropping from maiden allowance to $16K. She is a Florida bred by Indian Ocean.
It was more Moreno in race 6 as FIRST BULLET stalked and poured it on to win the $11,500 claimer for owner/trainer Kevin Attard and partner.
The finale was a close finish between 3 runners and the winner was STOLONBOY, the first winner for trainer Joe Walls this season. He was well ridden to move late and grab the win for $20,000 claiming. David Clark was up.
BRUNO SCHICKEDANZ HEARING ON AUG. 17
There is a hearing set for Aug. 17 for Bruno Schickedanz, who wants to fight his ban by Woodbine, regarding the WAKE AT NOON death. The owner has requested a hearing and it is open to the public.
There is a petition up in the Woodbine RACE OFFICE and in the HBPA, requesting folks to sign it who want a lifetime ban for the owner.

ADAMO SUSPENDED
Trainer ANTHONO ADAMO has been suspended by the Ontario Racing Commission until the results of a Pennsylaviani Racing commission investigation is complete, according to a brief ruling found on the WOODBINE WEB SITE.
Adamo trained for MICHAEL GILL this winter and that owner had jockeys revolt against him when they refused to ride against his horses at Penn National.

GRANTVILLE, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania horse trainer was charged Wednesday with trying to rig races at Penn National Race
Course by injecting horses with performance-enhancing drugs.
State police charged Darryl Delahoussaye, 47, of Harrisburg, with rigging a publicly exhibited contest, administering drugs to race horses, tampering with evidence and theft. Court records also spell his first name Darrel.
A Dauphin County grand jury investigation concluded that Delahoussaye gave horses banned items — including snake venom and an anti-inflammatory substance — before they raced at the track outside Harrisburg.
He also was charged with reselling three injured horses after promising they would be retired to a petting zoo, but at least one of those horses subsequently raced three times in Massachusetts, according to the grand jury report issued Friday.
State police said Delahoussaye had two employees remove evidence from a barn at Penn National in an attempt to foil investigators.
Delahoussaye was released on $20,000 bond. A district court official said he did not have a lawyer on file, and a listed phone number for him could not be located.
A horse-owner Delahoussaye had been working for, Michael Gill of Derry, N.H., was barred from Penn National in February after a series of horse breakdowns and a boycott by jockeys fearful for their safety.
Gill, who won 370 races last year and earned $6.7 million, is out of the horse racing business. Gill said Wednesday that, if the accusations against Delahoussaye are true, none of it was done at his request. Gill, who has not been charged, said he is not under investigation and has done nothing illegal.
FIFTY PROOF CASE
From blogs to the DRF, FIFTY PROOF’S handy win in a grass allowance recently has come under fire in another tough run for the Ontario Racing Comisssion this year.
The big guy broke through the gate beofre his win and it was similar to the same score by Indian Apple Is this spring – she was 1 to 5 and declared a non-starter. He was allowed the win but it was appealed (there was no inquiry after the race, fans were left scratching their heads). That appeal was quashed and now it is going farther.

11.16 A horse is a starter for all purposes of the Rules when the stall doors of the starting gate open in front of it at the time thestarter dispatches the horses in a valid start.
Fifty Proof was not a starter by ORC rules. The gate did not open for Fifty Proof when the starter dispatched the horses, but before. and it didn’t open in front of the horse at the time the starter dispatched the horses either.
