With over 228 of the 265 votes cast, Invasor became the first South American bred horse to win Horse of the Year at the 36th Eclipse Awards. The other finalists for the award were Barbaro who received 21 votes and Bernardini who received 16. The Eclipse Awards are voted on by members of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, Daily Racing Form and the National Turf Writers Association.
