Irish-bred Mekong Melody won her second consecutive edition of the $106,000 Flaming Page Stakes on Sunday at Woodbine.
Under winning rider Patrick Husbands, the David Egan charge drove to the lead nearing the quarter pole and handily staved off Happy Clapper for the three-quarter length triumphs. Liberally finished third.
Mekong Melody covered the ‘about’ 1 1/2-mile distance in 2:31.26, notching Hall of Fame trainer Roger Attfield his 10th Woodbine added-money score of the season.
The Flaming Page was the second stakes score of the season over the E.P. Taylor Turf Course score for the five-year-old bay mare, who won the Grade 2 Dance Smartly Stakes by a nose over stablemate Ave.
Last year, as a four-year-old, Mekong Melody won three of her four starts, taking the 1 1/2-mile Flaming Page by three-quarters of a length over Fortune Or Folly.
Mekong Melody returned $3.20, $2.40 and $2.10, combining with Happy Clapper ($5.10, $2.90) for a $20.40 exactor. Liberally ($3) rounded out a triactor worth $54.80.
