JOSHUA TREE, others that won at Woodbine, pass Breeders’ Cup

Recently purchase JOSHUA TREE is heading to Japan it seems. The following is from associated press:

It is also learnt that Irish trainer Adrian O’Brian’s Joshua Tree has been bought over by a leading Qatari owner.

Joshua Tree holds an impressive record of three wins in his six starts and finishing second and third on two occasions with total earnings of over QR 5.5mn.

Racing and Equestrian Club general manager Sami Jassim al-Boenain was pleased with the purchases made by the Qatari owners and was looking ahead to the Thoroughbreds performing well not only in Qatar but as well as the global arena.

“This is brilliant news for Qatar that the local owners are purchasing top quality Thoroughbreds. Racing can only get better and highly competitive. In the recent past there have been top class Thoroughbreds racing here in Doha and one of them finished sixth in the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe this year,” Sami told the Gulf Times.

FORT ERIE WRAPS UP

Parabola Wins the Tour de Fort!

Fort Erie Race Track wrapped up the 2010 racing season with one of the traditional closing day events, the Tour de Fort going a distance of 2 miles and 70 yards.  The race is a true test of stamina which offers a purse of $30,000.

This year’s race saw a field of 12 go to the gate.  Kettle Rapids under leading rider Krista Carignan took the lead in the early stages of the race and set the pace for the 1st mile.  It became a 2 horse race when Parabola ridden by Kirk Johnson drew closer and closer to the leader.  Going into the final turn the 2 horses were neck and neck but Parabola was able to pull away under a full head of steam to win by 18 lengths in a final time of 3:30.4.

Parabola, a 4 year old gelded son of Trajectory made his way to Fort Erie after competing at Woodbine as a 2 and 3 year old.  “He wasn’t going to make it at Woodbine so his previous owner sent him to me,” said trainer Dan Wills.  “My wife and I decided to buy him and this win makes the purchase that much sweeter.”

As far as jockey Kirk Johnson was concerned the win was just as easy as it looked.  “I rode him the way Dan told me to, he told me to relax him and he responded with a great move around the turn for home.”

Parabola returned $22.20 to win, $7.80 to place and $7.20 to show.  The pace setter Kettle Rapids was able to hold on for second and Galaxy finished third.

60 MINUTES FEATURES ZENYATTA ON HALLOWEEN

The undefeated superstar Zenyatta is scheduled to be featured on CBS televisions’s 60 minutes news program on Sunday, October 31, which is the Sunday night before the Breeders’ Cup Championships are held at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky on November 5 and 6.

The show will air on Halloween night, so you might want to set your DVR if you are heading out for Trick-or-Treating.

The program will feature film footage shot during Zenyatta’s workouts with exercise rider Steve Willard and jockey Mike Smith in the days leading up to the Breeders’ Cup.  Zenyatta has been based at Hollywood Park with trainer John Shirreffs throughout her career.

Owned by Jerry and Ann Moss (of A & M records), Zenyatta will be favored to repeat her victory over males in the $5,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday, November 6.  Zenyatta, who is named for the famous Police album, Zenyatta Mondatta, has won all 19 races in her career.

The appearance on the highly rated, long-running show is the kind of exposure few human athletes ever receive, much less a horse racing star.  Her appearance means tremendous exposure for the horse racing industry and the Breeders’ Cup.  60 minutes has averaged 13.7 million viewers each week this year, according to USA Today.
