WOODBINE OAKS to be DRAWN TODAY – 10 expected to go
The Woodbine Oaks is a well matched field, a great betting race and perhaps a star will emerge from the 9 furlong race. The entrants, while all nice fillies, come into the race with only Beyer Figures in the 70s so at this point, the group is not a strong one.
LONDON TOWER figures to be the favourite over LEADING EDGE (blinkers on) and SEASON TICKET, the latter is one of 3 for trainer Mark Casse.
Newcomer RED RIVER HEIDI is by Afleet Alex, a well known Polytrack/synthetic sire (Seventhfleethumor etc.) and she is a pace factor in her first try at Woodbine.
Many horses in the Oaks and Plate Trial are coming off a sickness that cut a swath through the Woodbine backstretch.

CONQUEST TYPHOON is out of the Trial as he has been sick. Three of
American riders Shaun Bridgmohan, Jose Valdivia and Julien Leparoux are in town for a very competitive edition of the Trial.
Four of the Mark Casse trainees will sort themselves out in this race while Roger Attfield has 2 closers.
Not much pace in the race so expect the front runner to have a good chance to steal this race.
Not racing this weekend is SHAMAN GHOST and AMI’S FLATTER, 2 contenders who are going directly into the Plate.

WOODBINE WEDNESDAY NIGHT
HEMLOCK CHANNEL kicked off the night with the highest Beyer Speed Figure of the evening, an 85 earned for 7 furlongs in 123.18. The 6yo does not race much (he missed all of 2014 and had 5 runs in 2013) but he has won 6 times now in 15 races and over $200,000 in earnings for Keith JOhn’s True North Stable. Lorne Richards trains the big chestnut who rallied from last under the red-hot Gerry Olguin.
race 2- Heavily favoured CASABLANCA KISS, owned by a group of Manitobans including Ken Lee and Dennis Mitchell, Don and Gaye Bell won her season debut under Jesse Campbell in this $40,000 claiming race. The Pure Prize mare made an impressive appearance on post parade and glided up off the turn to take the lead in the 5 1/2 furlong dash. She won by 6 lengths in 1:04.19 – a 79 Beyer Figure. Martin Drexler trains the 6yo who has won 7 of 27 races and was a $25,000 claim in 2013. Jesse Campbell rode.
race 3 – MARCIAN powered to the lead off the turn and won this $25,00 claiming race in her 3rd start off the layoff for owner and trainer Donnie MacRae. Eurico Rosa da Silva rode the Ontario bred by Roman Ruler. She has won 7 of 32 races.
race 4- PECAN PIE was a main track only entrant and with all the storming on Wednesday, she got to race. She won at even-money for Stephen Chesney and Cory Hoffman, her 2nd victory this year in 3 races. She is an Ontario bred by Sligo Bay, bred by Box Arrow and Gord Colbourne. The 5yo is trained by Kevin Attard and this $15,000 claim won this allowance race under Jesse Campbell, his 2nd win of the night.
race 5- a maiden $12,500 race started badly as Six Fifty broke outward and crashed into Classic War, who fell far behind and then rallied for 4th (placed 3rd when Six Fifty was disqualifried).
Up front, SWALLOW FIELD, owned and trained by Devon Boreland, chased a pace battle and then split fillies to win under Simon Husbandsm his first Woodbine winner of the year and 2nd win of the season. The Old Forester 4yo was bred by Doris Carey and it was her 4th career race.
race 6- a $20,000 claiming race was won by COASTAL MOON, for Janice and Veronica Attard. The bay colt rallied in time to catch Sweet Little Man in a complete reversal of form. The colt had been well beaten in 2 races at the meeting but he was dropping a bit in class.

race 7 – Early in the race, Wannabitabrew stumbled badly and Emile Ramsammy lost his irons, The filly raced hard into the field and caused some havoc before Ramsammy was ablt to pull her up. LADY OF MORAY won the $10,000 claiming race for Spring Farm, which bred the Philanthopist filly. David Garcia rode for Ricky Griffith.
race 8 the final race of the night went to R COCO CHANEL who battled on the lead and then drew off to win her maiden for $12,500 for C S Dowson farm and trainer Mark Fournier. Fournier is 7 for 15 on the season. Justin Stein rode.

The Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (Ontario Division) is delighted to announce that on Friday, June 12th at 6 p.m. we will be honouring 57 Breeders, of 79 Ontario Stakes Winners of 2014, at our 33rd Annual Awards Dinner at Woodbine Racetrack’s Trackside Tent in Rexdale, Ontario.
This year’s event will honour Paradox Farm, Inc. as Breeder of the Year for their outstanding achievement as the Breeder of 2014’s Champion Three-Year-Old Female and Horse of the Year, Lexie Lou, as well as other stakes performers such as Eff Bee Eye and Pohdi Pohdi.
We are also pleased to announce that long time track announcer Dan Loiselle, is this year’s recipient of the Blood-Horse Mint Julep Cup for his lifetime contribution and dedication to the Horse Industry.
The Board of Directors will also honour Mr. Nick Eaves with a Special Award of Merit for his invaluable contribution to the Horse Racing Industry.
Other award recipients include Not Bourbon for 2014 Top 1st Crop Ontario Sire, as well as Sligo Bay (IRE), Old Forester and Milwaukee Brew for 2014 Top Ontario Stallions.

Proceeds from the silent auction, which will feature items generously donated by members and friends, will go to the LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society once again.
