SIKURAS HAVE UNBEATEN 3-YEAR-OLD COLT

Smart Strike Colt Sells for $1M at Keeneland

Heavily-favored Seattle Serenade easily passed his first test against winners, defeating Tough Sunday and five others in Friday’s $49,260 feature at Los Alamitos.

Owned by breeder J. G. Sikura’s Hill ’n’ Dale Equine Holdings, Inc. and Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, the 3-year-old son of Smart Strike and the A.P. Indy mare Serenading, a Canadian champion, tracked the pace set by Feisty’s Cause, moved to challenge at the head of the stretch, then kicked clear in the final quarter of a mile to win by 6 ¼ lengths.

Successful in his much anticipated debut a month earlier at Del Mar, Seattle Serenade, who was ridden by Hall of Famer Mike Smith, completed the six furlongs in 1:08.90. The $27,600 payday boosted his bankroll to $58,800. He paid $3.60, $3 and $2.40 as the 4-5 choice.
He is the 2nd foal of Serenading who is a half sister to HANDPAINTED, a multiple stakes winner and daughter pf DAIJIN. This is the immediate family of WITH APPROVAL and TOUCH GOLD.

The NICK GONZALEZ runners continue to be sharp in the early days of the Gulfstream meeting. The barn took its 2nd win when PISCO BLISS scored at 8-1 on Thursday in a maiden $16,000 claiming race. The son of Kitten’s Joy had not raced in one year since he was claimed from a race at Gulfstream. Horse’n Around Racing Stable owns the 4-year-old.

On Friday, the barn’s CHARLIE’S WISDOM finished 3rd in a $12,500 maiden claiming race and was claimed by another Woodbine stable, Tino Attard who took the gelding for Frank Russo.

Owner/trainer STEVEN CHIRCOP started his first 3 horses at the Penn National meeting this year on Thursday night and had a win and a 3rd and one of them was claimed.
The winner was SLIGO GIRL, by Sligo Bay, who won a maiden race for $5,00 claiming by 6 1/2 lengths at 8-5. Coast Moon was third and was claimed earlier on the card.

**One of the difficulties of sifting through race results and watching races all winter is when you see a horse that raced at Woodbine, one you know well or bet on, that has broken down. These are reported on as we want to remember our friends from Woodbine. ..
SUPERSIZER, a Woodbine maiden winner this season for John Oxley and Mark Casse, broke down at Charles Town on Thursday night in a $5,000 claiming race. The $260,000 son of Dixie Union had been claimed for $8,000 in his previous race at Woodbine.
