Some 40 horses recently arrived at the Royal Saint Lucia Turf Club in late October to prepare for the Caribbean Equine Culture Festival and racing event, highlighted by the $150,000 Pitons Cup.

The Pitons Cup will be the richest race in the Caribbean and 12 slots are sold and each slot holder will be ‘gifted’ a starter. The horses are mostly unraced 3-year-olds purchased at the 2018 June OBS sale and prepared by Brandon and Ali Rice’s Ricehorse Stable in Ocala. These horses are for sale at $20,000 (US).
The slot holders as reported by the RSLTC are, so far, WinStar Farm; Taylor Made; Todd Pletcher, Sol Kumin & Brad Weisbord; and Dan Schafer. Harrington unveiled four more slot holders in top Jamaican trainer Anthony Nunez, who is teaming up with Barry Irwin’s Team Valor; Trinidadian owners Merlin Samlalsingh and Wilfred Acham; a group from Australia that includes Henry Field of Newgate Farms, Telluride and Richard and Michael Freedman; and California-based owners Rockingham Ranch and David Bernsen.
