Woodbine has announced that the $1 million Queen’s Plate will be held on Saturday Sept. 12. The plan is for TSN to air the event as originally planned, but with many changes in the sports and broadcast world this could be subject to change.

The oldest continuously run race in North America is traditionally held in July, but the 2020 edition was delayed because of restrictions due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Queen’s Plate prep races have also been rescheduled. The Woodbine Oaks presented by Budweiser and The Plate Trial will be held Saturday, August 15th. The complete revised stakes schedule will be available on May 20th.

Ontario’s emergency order delayed the entire 2020 thoroughbred racing season which usually gets under way in April. Last week, the government of Ontario announced the loosening of pandemic restrictions which allows for horse racing without spectators and physical distancing measures in place. Woodbine will start thoroughbred racing on June 6th.

The 2019 edition of the Queen’s Plate was won by One Bad Boy, bred by Ron Clarkson. The ridgling went on to finish third in the Prince of Wales and has not raced since.
