Horse racing at Century Mile in Nisku, Alberta is moving right along now and last week, Friday and Sunday, it held two stakes races that were won in fast times.

Also, owners will be allowed on the backstretch in the afternoons during allotted times, 2 days a week.

The days and times are:

Wednesday from 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Thursday from 5:00 – 8:00 pm

  • Trainer must notify the racing office 24 hours in advance and provide list of licensed owners that will be visiting
  • Trainer must escort the owner to their shedrow/stable/stalls
  • Access is only granted during the time slots
  • Face mask must be worn at all times

Russ and Lois Bennett’s SUNBURST, a 4-year-old filly by Sungold from Tierra del Fuego by Finality, led all the way to win the RedTail Landing Stakes on July 18 speeding 6 furlongs in 1:09.36. Trained by Barbara Heads, the filly was ridden by Rico Walcott to a 1 1/2 length score over former Woodbine runner Broadway Bonnie and Copper Fox.

Sunday, STONE CARVER won the Journal Handicap in 1:08.96 by 2 3/4 lengths over track record holder Trooper John. Stone Carver is trained by Tim Rycroft for Riversedge Racing Stable. Rigo Sarmiento rode. The winner is a son of Birdstone – Vermilion Sea by Boundary.
