The industry Associations, in recognition of the economic realities of wintering and training lower-level claiming horses, have implemented a plan to provide an incentive of $5,500 for horses that make their last start of 2021 at Hastings for claiming price of $6,250 or less ($8000 or less in the case of BC Breds) and make their first start in 2022 at Hastings at any level. Horses which waiver claim for $6,250 or less in their last start ($8,000 or less in the case of BC Breds) are also eligible.
To remain eligible a horse must not have started at any other track after the close of the 2021 Hastings season prior to making its first start of 2022 at Hastings.
When an eligible horse arrives and is stabled at Hastings in 2022 with the intention of racing at the 2022 Hastings Race Meet the papers must be placed with and accepted by the Hastings Race office.
$3000 will paid on the horses first start of the 2022 and an additional $2,500 will be paid to the owner on the second start.
The owner must undertake to leave the horse’s papers in the Hastings Race Office until the end of the 2022 Hastings Racing Season and to race the horse exclusively at Hastings Racecourse until the end of the 2022 Hastings Racing season.
Repayment of all Wintering Incentive money received for the horse will release the papers at any time.
Horses which start at any racetrack other than at Hastings after the date of August 12, 2021 are not eligible for this program.
