The 35th Woodbine Mile has one of the better fields of older horses for the Ricoh-sponsored, $1 million race coming up Sept. 17 at Woodbine.

We know Modern Games (Ire), considered one of the favourites for the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) at Keeneland on November 5, will be a strong favourite this Saturday, but who are the main threats to this chestnut 3-year-old?

Take note, no 3-year-old has won the Woodbine Mile since it became a one-mile grass race in 1997.

Also note, Lasix is not permitted for this race.

IVAR has been carefully pointed to Breeders’ Cup Mile: This horse is a deep, closing type who will enjoy the long stretch run. Trainer Paulo Lobo had some minor roadblocks this spring getting Ivar going but the horse won his return in July:

 

Two-time Horse of the Year MIGHTY HEART, whose sire Dramedy loved a grass mile (he missed by a nose in a one mile turf race at Woodbine!), shortens up from a good effort in the Niagara Stakes:
