CANADIAN THOROUGHBRED asked a handful of players, owners, TV hosts to give a couple of the best plays for the 36th Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita:
Randy Moss ( NBC Sports, NFL Network, Moss Pace Figures, Beyer Figures)
Vicki Pappas (Owner, breeder, chair and founder LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement, etc):
How about Code of Honor in the Classic, because we used to own a 1/2 to his dam and Shug M. is one of my favourite trainers . And Scabbard in the Juvenile as he finished a good second to the morning line fave after a troubled trip in his last start
John Siscos (Ontario Racing, avid horseplayer)
Leinster (#7, 8-1, in R5, Turf Sprint) broke his maiden in his 13th start, but has stunningly figured things out in the latter half of his four-year-old season and is in as good a form as any horse in here.
Mongolian Groom (#9, 12-1, in R12, Classic) a former claimer that is also in the best form of his career, which includes a Grade 1 win last time. He has the tactical speed to be positioned on the lead in a race which does not have a confirmed pace setter.
Jason Portuondo (Woodbine TV, avid horseplayer)
Firenze Fire – Sprint – Might get sweet set-up because of tactical speed and hasn’t looked out of place with the biggies Mitole and Imperial Hint. Let’s just call it sweet redemption for Trainer Jason Servis…my upset pick!!!
Vino Rosso – Still don’t agree with the DQ at Belmont but let’s move on…lol. He’s a Gr.I course and distance winner in that other Gold Cup which make him a legit option in a race full of possibilities. Clearly revenge is on my mind at this year’s BC, and this is guy should be a square price…I’ll drink to that!!!
Mitchell Kursner (Owner, breeder, avid horseplayer) – Dirt Mile..
Dirt Mile…
Omaha Beach
Improbable
Mr Money
Coal Front
Book It!
Bill Tallon (Daily Racing Form, Woodbine, avid horseplayer)
Lucullan--seems to be on the improve, will need to work out a trip from inside but price will be right.
Elate--A Distaffer in the Classic? Like Mott’s move and the mile and a quarter not the question mark it may be for some here.
Reade Baker (trainer, owner, bloodstock agent)
I like Decorated Invader in the Juvenile Turf, I trained his mother Gamely Girl and she wasvery talented and very courageous.
Omaha Beach, for him to come back and sprint like that should be a perfect set up. I think the track might have a little bit more give to it too, because of the accidents, and that should be perfect for him
Jeff Bratt (Woodbine TV host, handicapper)
Covfefe – Versatile filly loves 7 furlongs and should get first run at the speed. When she’s on her game she is scary good.
Mitole – Only one bad race this season when stuck with post position one. Has a chance to wrap up championship honors with a win on Saturday
