The newest chapter of Triple Crown winner Justify’s storied career has started, with Foreign Affair foaling a bay filly by the undefeated Horse of the Year on Friday night.
Born at Amaroo Farm in Kentucky for Audley Farm, the filly is the first foal for the winning Exchange Rate mare Foreign Affair.
Foreign Affair was one of 252 mares bred to Justify in 2019.
“She’s got great bone and plenty of leg, a quality first foal for the mare. We couldn’t be happier,” said Audley Farm’s Jamie McDiarmid.
Foreign Affair is a half-sister to dual-Grade III winner and five-time Group I-placed So Perfect and Listed-placed Scat Eddie. Their winning dam Hopeoverexperience is a half-sister to Grade II winner Cowtown Cat.
With his first book including 41 Grade I winners, Justify bred the most Grade I winning mares of any North American sire in 2019 and will try to follow in fellow Triple Crown winner and Champion Freshman sire American Pharoah’s footsteps in 2022. The Pharoah had a spectacular first season with his offspring, leading all sires in North America with $2.7 million in progeny earnings.
