Jenna’s Wabbit was a wire-to-wire winner of the $150,000 Achievement Stakes, on Holiday Monday at Woodbine.
With Eurico Rosa da Silva in the irons, the son of Old Forester led at every pole in the six-furlong event for Ontario-foaled three-year-olds, winning by 3 ½ lengths over Incredicat in 1:11.16 on the Polytrack, after hot early fractions of :22.43, :44.99 and :57.37. Bear and Rod was third.
It was the fifth win in eight starts and second consecutive score for the dark bay gelding, who came into the Achievement off an impressive 2 ½-length win in the six-furlong (turf) Bold Ruckus Stakes on June 9.
Last year, Jenna’s Wabbit won three races from six starts for owners Danny Lococo and Mary Biamonte (wife of trainer/breeder Ralph Biamonte), including the Bull Page Stakes and the Frost King Stakes.
This year, he’s two-for-two.
“He worried me a bit going into the turn,” offered da Silva. “He was aggressive. He was so strong. But he ran a beautiful race.”
Ralph Biamonte was pleased to see his pupil pull out another strong performance from his hat.
“He’s doing really well,” said the veteran conditioner. “He was really on the ball. We’re just fortunate to have a horse like him.”
Jenna’s Wabbit paid $4.70, $2.70 and $2.40, combining with Incredicat ($2.40, $2.10) for a $8.70 exactor. Bear and Rod ($3.20) completed a $28.70 triactor.
