Ailsa Morrison rides first winner in Fourth Mount
21-year-old apprentice guides Dot's Last Call to easy win at Fort Erie Oct. 8 for owner Gary Wellwood, trainer Scott Fairlie
In just her fourth career ride, AILSA MORRISON settled Gary Wellwood’s Dot’s Last Call off the pace and then guided him around rivals on his way to an easy win in a 1 1/16 mile race at Fort Erie, Oct. 8. Morrison, a 10-pound apprentice who rode her first race at Woodbine last weekend, did not have a whip on the Scott Fairlie trainee.
From New Brunswick, Morrison was riding her brother’s pony when she was just 4-years-old and, coming from a horsey and eventing family, was riding cross-country eventing as early as age seven.
The resident of Belle River, ON rode in many major eventing competitions before pursuing a career as a jockey.
