RICO WALCOTT, a multiple champion jockey at various tracks in Alberta, is expected to set up shop at Woodbine for the 2023 season which begins April 22.
Walcott, who won his sixth Canadian Derby (G3) at Century Mile last year aboard Great Escape, trained by Robertino Diodoro, has dominated meetings at Stampede Park and Northlands Park and was the leading rider at Century Mile in 2020 and 2021. From Barbados, Walcott moved to Canada in 2007 and he has won 1,524 races from 6,424 mounts for a whopping 24% win rate.
Walcott also survived a life-threatening brain tumour found early in 2019 before winning those two titles at Century Mile. He recently was back home in Barbados to ride Ken Ramsey’s American Diamond in the Sandy Lane Gold Cup to a seventh-place finish.
Tony Esposito will be Walcott’s agent for the Woodbine meeting.
