An Alberta-bred dark bay gelding by Preakness Stakes (G1) winner Oxbow from the stakes place mare Samara Street (Street Cry-Ire) topped the CTHS Alberta yearling sale Sept. 13. The gelding, a half brother to stakes placed Choteau, was sold by Highfield Investment Group Inc. for $48,000 to 114002 Alberta Ltd.

It was a rocky sale this year as the average yearling price dropped 30 per cent to $7,714 from $9,658 a year ago. A few more horses were sold this year but a few more were also bought back compared to 2018.

The top filly was also sold by Highfield Investment and is an Alberta-bred by Giant Gizmo from the Allen’s Prospect mare Golden Made who has produced nine stakes winners or stakes placed horses. The buyer was Greg Tracy as agent.
