A Quarter Horse ‘hook’ race broke from the gate on the weekend without anyone noticing that the track ambulance was not in position and in fact, was driving towards the field along the rail of the main track.
A race at Evangeline Downs in Louisiana made headlines worldwide and was on every social media platform with the incredible video of the incident that somehow did not cause any injuries. All riders in the race managed to get their horses out of the way of the ambulance in time and later the race was deemed no contest. Incredibly, the track announcer did not notice until after the field avoided the vehicle.
Jockey Kody Kellengerger said on Facebook:
“I guess there’s a first for everything,” Kellenberger posted on Facebook later Saturday night. “Thank God we all made it back safe. Not to mention these were nearly all stakes horses.”
