Toronto, ON – Impossible Time, a bay daughter of Not Impossible, netted her second win of the year, second straight score and first added-money victory, in taking Saturday’s $126,200 Ballade Stakes at Woodbine. The 2 ½-length win the Roger Attfield trainee’s fifth from 10 career starts, a victory that followed a resounding eight-length triumph at seven furlongs on April 25 at the Toronto oval. Impossible Time, who finished fifth in last year’s Ballade, covered six furlongs in a speedy 1:08.79 on the Polytrack.
Under Jones, the five-year-old mare watched an early battle for the lead unfold, as the duo sat a patient eighth through a quarter in :22.35 and sixth after a half in :45.20, set by Dash It Dreamer, who came into the race on a three-race win streak.
Jones and Impossible Time angled out on the turn for home, powering by their rivals in early stretch en route to the win. Dash It Dreamer was second and mutuel favourite Bent Attorney was third.
“She’s a lovely horse to ride,” said Jones. “This year she’s in good form.”
Attfield was happy to see his hard-luck charge break her stakes maiden in style. “I’ve always loved this horse,” said Attfield, of the Charles Fipke-owned Ontario-bred. “It’s nice to see this happen. We’ve always known it’s (talent) there. It’s encouraging.”
Impossible Time, who won her 2009 finale at Woodbine by three lengths on November 29, launched her 2010 campaign in Florida, finishing third and fifth, respectively, in two dirt races at Gulfstream.
She paid $10, $5.20 and $2.80, combining with Dash It Dreamer ($6.70, $3.50) for a $73.20 exactor. Bent Attorney ($2.40) completed a $204.60 triactor. A $1 superfecta (Authenicat) paid $228.50.
