MELISANDRE, the 2019 CTHS Manitoba sales topper at $25,000, remained undefeated with her four-length win in the $30,000 Debutante Stakes for 2-year-old fillies August 4 at Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg. The full sister to the 2019 star Hidden Grace dueled on the pace for more than half of the 5 1/2 furlong dash before drawing away under jockey Stanley Chadee Jr.

First time starters Fire on Command and Temple of Zoom finished second and third and the running time was 1:01.20.

Melisandre is a Manitoba-bred daughter of Going Commando – High Pioneer by Pioneering and she was bred by Cam Ziprick, Barry Arnason and Charles Fouillard. She is owned by True North Thoroughreds and trained by Michael Nault. The winner’s share for the Debutante was $18,360.

Wednesday night, Aug. 5, FREEZING JIMMY posted an upset in the Graduation Stakes at 9 to 1, coming from some five lengths off the lead in the 5 1/2 furlong event to win by 1 1/2 lengths in his career debut. Wilmer Galviz, fresh off his winning ride in the Manitoba Derby on Monday on Mongolian Wind, rode Freezing Jimmy to victory.

Impressive Sense finished second over Explorer Bill who was third. The time was 1:01.

Freezing Jimmy is owned by Marvin and Deb Buffalo and trained by Marvin Buffalo. The California-bred 2-year-old is a son of Woodbine stakes winner James Street (El Prado (Ire)) from the Lucky Pulpit mare Abbeyinthewild who was unraced.

Marvin Buffalo purchased Freezing Jimmy for $2,700 at the 2019 Arizona Breeders fall yearling sale.

ANTONIO WHITEHALL  54 wins, 37 seconds and 32 third-place finishes in a track-leading 193 starts. Rafael Zenteno Jr. has 33 wins and Chadee has 28 wins.

On the trainer’s side, JERRY GOURNEAU, from Turtle Mountain Chippewa Reserve in Belcourt, North Dakota, has 49 wins to lead Tom Gardipy Jr. with 23 wins and Shelley Brown who has 14 victories.
