The British Columbia Horse Racing Industry Management Committee (BCHRIMC) met December 4 via teleconferencing to propose Live Racing Dates for Hastings Racecourse for 2021.

It was passed unanimously that the committee forward the schedule presented below to GPEB, City of Vancouver and Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency (CPMA) for approval.

The Racing Associations had previously submitted a proposal to Hastings Racecourse not only with the following race dates but also several other important dates for the proposed 2021 racing season.

Our Proposal for 2021

1: Hastings Racecourse opens for move in and setup on Friday, February 5th.

2: Horses move in on February 6th onward.

3: Track opens for training on Tuesday, February 9th.

4: Training Tuesday – Sunday with Monday being the Dark Day

5: Clockers start on Tuesday, March 9th.

6: Starting Gate opens on Tuesday, March 9th.

7: Opening day, Kentucky Derby Day May 1st and possible closing on Saturday October 23rd.

We have been discussing these subjects with Hastings Racecourse since early October but as yet we have not yet secured our proposal but talks continue on an ongoing basis.

The Racing Associations back in August hired a Lobbying Company to lobby the Provincial Government for funding for the 2021 season and beyond to stabilize our industry during this horrible Pandemic facing not only us but the whole world.

The Associations have made two very lengthy proposals to the Provincial Government and at this time we feel fairly optimistic we might receive some economic relief before the new year.

The associations have put in literally hundreds of hours on our behalf preparing briefs and discussions with the Provincial Government directly.

We hope to have some positive news shortly and it would be the best Christmas News hopefully we will ever receive.
