A grey gelding by the Tapit stallion TAPITURE topped the annual BC CTHS yearling sale on September 14 at the Thunderbird Show Park in Langley, BC.
Consigned by Glen Todd’s Northern American Thoroughbred Horse Company, the Kentucky-bred gelding brought a bid of $49,000 from Gary Johnson. The grey is out of the winning Monarchos mare Silver Splendor, a half-sister to stakes winner It’s Tamereno.
Todd had purchased the Zoelle Racing-bred youngster for $7,500 in January as a ‘short’ yearling.
The BC sale realized increases across the board for 2021.
A total of 83 horses sold during Tuesday’s auction for revenues of $1,191,000 (Canadian), marking an 86 per cent increase from last year’s sale, when 74 horses brought $639,600. The average sale price rose 21 percent to $15,880 from $13,053, the median rose 8 per cent to $13,000 from $12,000, and the buyback rate finished at 9.6 per cent compared with 26.5 percent in 2020.
The top filly was a daughter of Mucho Macho Man who was bought for $42,000 by Todd’s North American Thoroughbred Horse Company from Whitewood Farm. The filly is a BC-bred and half-sister to two winners as well as from the family of Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) winner Squirtle Squirt.
