Lanni Bloodstock, Daniel Plouffe and Canuck Racing Club’s ENJOYTHESILENT (Silent Name (Jpn), the number 18 horse in the King’s Plate entries and originally placed on the also-eligible list as only 17 horses can start in the 1 1/4 mile race, will draw into the ‘gallop for the guineas’.
Due to a miscalculation of earnings (after 17 entrants horses are listed by earnings) on Enjoythesilent, trained by Kevin Attard, the gelding actually should have been included in the body of the field while EL COHETE (Society’s Chairman), trained by Mike DePaulo for Rocco d’Alimonte and Frank Annecchini, should have been on the ‘also’ list.
El Cohete, who drew post 16 at the post position draw on Wednesday, will be a steward’s scratch for tomorrow’s race. RUNAWAY CHARLIE, a full brother to last year’s Plate winner Moira, is just below him as a second also-eligible.
Enjoythesilent, bred by Adena Springs, will be saddlecloth 18 and break from post 17.
Woodbine issued the following statement on Saturday at noon:
The career earnings for Enjoythesilent have been adjusted after it was discovered that an Ontario Sired bonus of $714 CAD had erroneously not been inputted by Equibase into Enjoythesilent’s earnings after his first start in July, 2022. As a result, Enjoythesilent officially has higher career earnings than El Cohete, who is currently in the field for The King’s Plate.
After discussion with the AGCO stewards, the decision has been made that should no horses scratch by Sunday morning, El Cohete will be a Steward’s scratch and Enjoythesilent will draw into the race. Should any other horse scratch, both horses will be allowed to race.
“I was told [Friday evening] that the Equibase chart had an error, it didn’t have the Ontario bonus for Enjoythesilent,” said DePaulo. “The owners are very disappointed.”
Attard, who has three other horses in the Plate field said, “It’s a no-win situation for everybody. Everybody loses out.”
